Joe Lescene Memorial Ride in support of MPNMR Featured

10th AnniversaryOn the 7-8 July 2018 the 10th Anniversary Military Police National Motorcycle Ride 2018 will officially kick off its 10th year of existence.

The traditionally Vancouver Island Ride, for this year is being renamed the “Joe Lescene Memorial Ride” paying respect to our good friend Joe who passed away last fall during an unfortunate accident while vacationing in the US.  Joe was an avid supporter of our charity and a passionate motorcycle enthusiast. His humor, sense of pride and dedication to the children we ride for was exemplary and was the level each one of us strived to emulate. Joe was to ride our national Ride this year (Victoria, BC to St. John’s NL); however, with the blessing of his family Joe will be joining us in spirit on our ride with a small token of remembrance riding with our national riders.

Joe was one of those gentlemen who quietly and sometimes not so, lead from the front, and in doing so he was the single highest rider who collected the most donations for our children here in BC.  Funny, articulate and a giving soul, he touched all in ways which is hard to explain but remembered always.

On Saturday, 7th July we shall lead our group of two and three wheeled charity minded family members, because that is what the motorcycle community is, family, and ride to Comox, spend the night socializing and raising money for the children and paying our respects to Joe.  On Sunday, 8 July we will return to Victoria. Utilizing both the new highway but as much as possible the old highway (19A).

Our route will take us to the Lantzville, Bowser and Comox Royal Canadian Legions who are supporters in our annual ride, providing sponsorship in the way of free food, refreshments, and funding for the charity and riders.  19 WG Comox will let us all play “Soldier” and stay in the Arena on Cots for free and then setting a table for our riders for a breakfast in the morning.

On Sunday after our Bike/Rider Blessing, a full breakfast we ride back via the 19A to our good friends at Thrifty Foods in Parksville who supply a free lunch for our riders which is unbelievable.  After which we take our time and return to Victoria where our riders can reflect on the great work they have done and remember what Joe was a huge part of each year.

If you wish to partake in remembering Joe, supporting the MPFBC then please contact either CPO2 Yves Ouellet                 (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), the BC Coordinator or myself Lamont French (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), the National Chair as space is limited and since this is a supported ride we need to let those organizations who are supporting us know the numbers for logistical and admin reasons.

We thank you for your support and please visit our Website at:  www.nationalmotoryclerealy.ca and/or our Facebook page at:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/MPNMRR/

2018 marks the 100th year anniversary since the end of World War I, the “War to end all wars”.  As part of our Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) history we are proud to remember this important date.  2018 also marks the Special 10th Anniversary Edition of the Military Police National Motorcycle Relay (MPNMR - www.nationalmotorcyclerelay.ca), our fight to help visually challenged children in Canada.

My name is Lamont French, the current National Chair and National Rider in this historic event.  I served as a member of the CAF Military Police (MP) for 30 years, and I now have the honour of riding for visually challenged children in their continued fight for improvements and opportunities.

We have taken this fight to the good people of Canada in hopes to gain support and donations in assisting the challenges of visually challenged children all over Canada.  Or charity is the Military Police Fund for Blind Children (MPFBC - www.mpgbc.com).  This is the only military charity in the country, it is staffed and run by 100% volunteers, and most importantly but we all something we are very proud of is that ALL funds raised are used to benefit visually challenged children which is something most charities cannot state.  Our charity is recognized by Revenue Canada and bears CRA #13494-9635-RR001.

In support of our ride which starts (29 Jul 2018) in Beautiful British Columbia and ends on the majestic shores of Newfoundland (24 Aug 2018), We here in Victoria are hosting our Annual Silent Auction and BBQ, at the Navy Officer ‘s Gun Room, located at Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt on Saturday, 28 July 2018. (5:00 pm till 8:00 pm).

Our event is a supported local and national charity fundraising charity motorcycle ride championing visually challenged children up to 21 years old.  Since 2009 we have partnered with like-minded companies/individuals who believe in paying it forward and giving back to the community. Together we have helped us raise awareness to the unlimited potential of children with vision challenges; our future of Canada has helped us contribute over $600,000 for our children’s charity.  Over the past 10 years of existence, the MPNMR has helped children here in BC receive over $125.000 in funding such as various lesson types, speciality equipment, camps, schooling, electronics and computers. We have sent over 60 children to Space Camp, a speciality camp which caters towards visually challenged children and since 2001 over 134 children ($250,000).

It is you, the communities, businesses, and social organizations who are the true champions of any charity cause and we need you to believe in our event to help us make the difference in the lives of these children.  We are asking you to please help us, Team BC. As such we are requesting your support of this Silent Auction (our main fundraising event) and are seeking any type of “Goods and/or Service”, which your company/organization believes it can spare to help us support the children which we represent.  In appreciation for your assistance, your organization’s logo and a link to your website will be posted on our Facebook page and website. In addition, Platinum level sponsors ($5000 and higher), will have their logo added to our Banner which will travel and be displayed by the Relay across the country.

Should you wish to make a monetary donation as well/instead of, then of course it is what truly makes things happen for our children.  Cheques can be made out to: MPNMR – 2018 and sent to the address noted below.

We realize that our charity event may not be the only one you are asked to support this year, so if you should decide not to assist us, then we have only one request to ask of you, please volunteer or donate to another charity and help them make a difference to those they represent.

From the children for whom we ride, the volunteers, our riders and all who have helped before you, we wish to thank you for considering our charity and our event in knowing that no matter what we do, without those like yourself who believe in what we do and the charity we represent, we cannot move forward and make the difference and pay it forward.  For that we thank you for simply believing and supporting.

Lamont French (MP Sgt Ret'd)
