The baby grand in the lobbyThe baby grand in the lobbyI pulled into the Bayside on a gorgeous August afternoon, at the reception counter I was greeted by a friendly gal who not only checked me in, but also ensured that I could park my motorcycle where someone could keep an eye on it.

The elevator was giving everyone a bit of grief (the doors did not want to open properly), so they had a gal manning it to ensure its smooth operation.

My RoomMy RoomI went to my room with all my bags and was grateful to see the two big beds, ample desk and chair and a nice clean bathroom.  Everything was top drawer!

Once I had a run through the “rain locker”, I went downstairs to have supper.

The lobby has a gorgeous baby grand piano to the one side and in behind it they had the photography art of a local artisan on display.  It sure made the lobby inviting and made me feel connected to the community somehow.

Totem that captured meTotem that captured meOne piece in particular caught my eye. It was part of a totem, and something about that photo touched me.

Madonna Kimberley Petraroia who is the director of sales and marketing joined me in the lobby.  We went outside to the Bayside Bistro & Lounge’s patio to take advantage of the gorgeous view and what would be a fantastic sunset.

The wait staff was attentive without being obnoxious, and after placing our orders for both food and drinks, Madonna and I chatted about the hotel and the family that owns it along with two other hotels on Vancouver Island.

We chatted about the differences and challenges in running the three hotels that comprise Balmoral Groups properties.

Not only does this family run business own the Quality Resort Bayside in Parksville but they also own the Quality Inn Waddling Dog in Saanichton and the Econolodge Inn & Suites in Victoria.  Being a business owner on an island has its unique set of challenges, especially when it comes to the costs of food and products needed to run a hotel!

We talked about the membership of the three Balmoral Group Properties in the Rider Friendly Business Association®. It is nice to have partners who are dedicated to offering the rider the amenities and services they need. Like secure parking!

Our dinner arrived and I was eager to dig in, the day’s riding had heightened my hunger!

SalmonSalmonMadonna had the steak and I had the Cedar Wrapped Salmon, after all, seafood is what this region is noted for!

The coconut rice was light and flavourful, the asparagus was cooked to perfection and the salmon was absolutely divine.  After our meal we were presented with a dessert menu. I chose to pass on dessert even though the offerings looked appealing.

The GazeboThe GazeboAfter a cup of coffee, Madonna took me for a walk on the property to show me its various offerings.  The gazebo out on the lawn over looking the ocean is the ideal spot for weddings and special parties.

Outdoor PatioOutdoor PatioThe hotel offers an indoor pool, hot tub, work out room, squash court, business centre and room service. There is also a liquor store on site along with a barber/hair shop.

Although I did not get to take in any of the above amenities, I did get to spend some time down on the beach stargazing.  It was one of the most peaceful and restful times I had on my trip to the island.

After a fantastic nights sleep, I went and had breakfast, I was one of the first people in the restaurant.  Breakfast was served quite promptly and after my fill of bacon and eggs, I warmed up my coffee and headed down to a picnic table I had scoped out the night before.

My view while writing inspiring to say the leastMy view while writing inspiring to say the leastI worked on an article I had to get done and spent some time daydreaming.  The though of actually taking a few days off to just rest and relax, recharge was some appealing.

Alas, that was not to be.

It was soon time to head back to my room and get packed up for another busy day.

The Quality Resort Bayside is a fabulous property run by great people.

The staff is helpful, the rooms are comfortable and clean, the food is delicious and the view is magnificent.
