Every now and then we take notice of dedication, passion and commitment to WRWR.
The Admins would like to recognize the WRWR Baton for Superstar Status! The baton was hand crafted by Eugene Sanderson of the USA, who spent hours turning, carving, painting (there is even glow in the dark paint!) and epoxying it from a solid block of aged Mahogany. Not only was the Baton handcrafted, the carrying case was custom molded specifically to carry the Baton and it’s travelling companions.
The Baton has travelled through 43 countries, tens of thousands of kilometers and been held by countless women. The Baton and case are always eager for a photo opportunity! Even with as well made as it is, it is in need of repairs. So it will be travelling home for some tender love and attention. But don't worry because there is a new and improved baton at the ready!! Crafted by the same hands out of the same wood with fresh paper awaiting more women riders’ signatures!!
This second Baton has already been shipped ahead and will be making its debut in Myanmar on July 26th! The original paper that started with Hayley Bell’s signature in Scotland, along with all of the added items, will be held safely in storage for the remainder of the relay. Both Batons will be reunited to create a double sided scroll that will contain all of the signatures captured and will be placed on display at the final event in the UK in February 2020 prior to their retirement (hopefully in a museum)!
