2019 Bug Run to Spences Bridge - BC Featured

2019 Bug Run Saturday, July 13th the Southern Interior Christian Riders had their 1st Annual “Bug Run” to Spences Bridge.

It was a perfect day for the event with temperatures approaching 30C with some cloud cover.  Registration was between 10 and 11AM in 4 locations including: Hope, Peachland, Kamloops and 100 Mile House. The stage was set for riders to enjoy a 150 to 200Km ride to the Log Cabin Pub in Spences Bridge where owners Laurie & John, were preparing lunch for 29 riders.  And what a lunch it was, with some of the biggest, juiciest hamburgers ready to fill the hungriest biker, prepared with all the trimmings. It was a celebration atmosphere as riders arrived in the pub from as far away as Vanderhoof, Grande Prairie, Abbotsford, Penticton and numerous places in between.

After Bug Targets were checked over and evaluated, awards were given out to 3 categories and each winner had the opportunity to draw for 1 of 3 gas cards.  Winners from left to right were as follows:

Lyle from Vanderhoof, B.C. - “Closest to the Centre” & a $100 Gas Card

Jeff from Armstrong, B.C. - “Biggest Splat” & a $25 Gas Card

Rick from Summerland - “Chosen” & a $25 Gas Card

But the story doesn’t end there.  Where was Erwin, the missing rider from Grand Prairie?   A short phone call revealed that Erwin had broken down in Merritt.  His chain had come off, and it had created a hole in his crankcase causing him to be stranded in Merritt.

This is where the story gets very interesting, for Erwin had met a local Merritt man who was celebrating his birthday.  The unknown “Good Samaritan” lent Erwin his car to complete his journey from Merritt to the Log Cabin Pub, so Erwin could enjoy his “Bug Run” lunch.  The owners at the pub were happy to honor his lunch ticket, even though the event was over when he arrived. Wow! Then when Erwin arrived back in Merritt to return the vehicle, his chain had been put back on his bike; the hole in his crankcase had been repaired with J-B Weld; and Erwin & his bike were back on the road headed to Grand Prairie.  Now that’s one good news story about how God had used these folks to help a biker continue on his journey!

After a follow-up phone call to the Log Cabin Pub, Laurie confirmed she was happy to provide Erwin his meal at their cost.  As a token of our appreciation, a $50 good will donation was made on behalf of the Log Cabin Pub to the Christian Motorcyclist Association “Run for the Son” to help support the Great Commission where:

  • 20% is used to provide transportation for indigenous pastors (through Missionary Ventures of Canada)
  • 20% to assist the church in “restricted access” countries with Bibles, study material (through Open Doors – Brother Andrew)
  • 20% to share the gospel message in remote areas of the world (through the Jesus Film Project)
  • 40% for evangelism in the biking community in Canada (through CMA Canada).
